Wilbur Outfitters is a fishing charter service based in Wilbur-by-the-Sea near Daytona Beach, Florida. But we’re not your average fish folk.
We are born and raised in the Daytona Beach area and our lives revolve around fishing and the beach lifestyle. We are so lucky to live in a place like Wilbur-by-the-Sea, where the fishing is plentiful all year long and the salty ocean breeze reminds us how fortunate we are. Our goal is to bring that same joy to those who live outside our neighborhood.
THE CAPTAIN
Captain Frank L Thompson is the founder of Wilbur Outfitters and the primary captain of the charters. He was born and raised in the Daytona Beach area where he surfed and fished his whole life. (Fun fact: He spent seven years playing professional baseall making it to the Triple A level!). Meet him and his love of the area is immediately obvious. His knowledge of fishing compounded with understanding the local waters ensures each charter gets the very best service. He wants every client to bring home a catch worth remembering for a life time.
WILBUR-BY-THE-SEA
From boathouse to beach, Wilbur-by-the-Sea truly is a quiet stretch of paradise.
Located at 29°07′59″N 80°57′31″W, between Daytona Beach Shores and Ponce Inlet, our small, community is bordered by water.
To the west, the Halifax River provides phenomenal backwater fishing and quick access to the Inlet. To the east, the Atlantic Ocean provides breath-taking sunrises and year-round fishing. It is one of the two unincorporated areas in Volusia County that does not have a condominium or hotel, and prohibits beach driving.
The fishing in Wilbur-by-the-Sea is very versatile. Fishing Wilbur Bay can be done by a backwater boat or kayaks. If you do not have a vessel then the Wilbur Boathouse offers a newly constructed fishing pier, free to the public. Depending on the tides, common local catch includes redfish, flounder, black drum, and mangrove snapper. Beach fishing is also popular with the locals. Seasonal ocean catch includes redfish, tarpon, pompano, flounder and several species of shark.

We know you want to show off your catch. (So do we!) We’re not professional photographers, but we do our best to capture your entire trip via photo or video and share the clips with you that very same evening so you can post your stories, email to friends, or add to your blog. Want a specific shot? Don’t hesitate to ask. We can take them on your phone or ours.
